The Chinese coast guard said on Monday that a Philippine supply ship had approached a Chinese ship dangerously, resulting in a minor collision after the Chinese ship had illegally entered Waters in the South China Sea close to Second Thomas Shoal. Manila’s military described this assertion as “deceptive and misleading.”
The Coast Guard said in a statement that the Philippine goods and replenishment ship disregarded China’s several serious warnings.
According to the guard, there was a collision because the ship approached the Chinese ship in an unprofessional and risky manner. There was no mention of any injuries or vessel damage in the statement.
The chief of the public affairs office of the Philippine armed forces, Xerxes Trinidad, told reporters, “We will not dignify the deceptive and misleading claims of the China Coast Guard.” He also added that they would not reveal the operational specifics of resupply operations. “The continued aggressive actions of the CCG are escalating tensions in the region.”
According to the military, the primary concern is still the unlawful entry and activities of Chinese warships within the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines. The spokesperson for the Philippine Coast Guard, Jay Tarriela, stated that because it was not a coast guard operation, the department was unable to provide details.
Regarding risky actions and crashes near the Second Thomas Shoal atoll in the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), China and the Philippines have been trading allegations for months. In order to defend Manila’s maritime rights, the Philippines has deployed resupply missions for Filipino soldiers residing aboard an ageing battleship that has been purposefully run aground on multiple occasions.
