Dar es Salaam: A plane carrying 43 people plunged into Lake Victoria in Tanzania early morning today due to bad weather shortly before it could land in the northwestern city of Bukoba. Rescue operation for those onboard are underway.
Regional commissioner Albert Chalamila said 43 people including 39 passengers, two pilots, and two cabin crew were aboard in flight from financial capital Dar es Salaam to lakeside city in Kagera region.
“There was an accident involving a Precision Air plane which crashed into water 100 meters from airport’, told regional police commander.
Precision Air is the largest private airline in Tanzania. The Airline has confirmed that the rescue team has been dispatched to the scene and more information shall be soon revealed.
Earlier in 2017, a passenger plane crashed in Northern Tanzania, and in 2019, an Ethiopian airlines flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi plunged six minutes after take-off, killing all 157 onboard.
