Islamabad: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks linked to the resumption of trade to resolve the Kashmir issue have not gone well on the Indian side. India has not made any decision to extend assistance to Pakistan in the wake of the devastating floods.
Shehbaz Sharif tweeted today, “Syed Ali Geelani personified the very essence of Kashmiris’ struggle. Frail in body but firm in resolve, he powered the resistance movement with belief in the idea of freedom from Indian yoke”.
The issue of trade and humanitarian assistance has been a major concern since Pakistan;s finance minister Miftah Ismail said that Islamabad may consider importing essential food commodities from India to cope up the shortages due to floods.
Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan made press remarks that linked the resumption of trade to the resolution of the Kashmir issue. Pakistan’s External Affairs Minister. Arindam Bagchi was non-committal when asked about the issues of humanitarian assistance. Pakistan suspended trade with India in August 2019 and downgraded ties as part of retaliatory measures against New Delhi’s decision to scrap the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
