Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari goes into hospital following poor health, reports Pakistan media. A news agency reported Tuesday that the 69-year-old leader was brought to the hospital from Nawabshah, 300 kilometres from Karachi, after having a fever and an infection.

President Zardari was taken to the hospital on arrival and underwent multiple medical tests, doctors are keeping a check on his condition. Statements on his health, however, are few as medical experts assess the extent to which his infection and other symptoms are severe.

Monday, Zardari made his trip to Nawabshah to attend prayers on the Eid holiday. According to local media reports, he had attended a political meeting with his party leaders on Sunday before that. As he has a history of health problems, his sudden hospitalisation has alarmed political circles and party members.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also contacted President Zardari over the phone to enquire about his health while also, meanwhile, working on raising USD 3 million within the hour to provide critically injured foreign students with immediate medical care. Noting that the Prime Minister wished for a speedy recovery from Zardari, state-run news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported that Prime Minister also commented.

Since 2008, President Zardari also served as the country’s head of state again from 2008 until 2013; after that, he has dealt with a number of health problems over the years. His hospitalization has also prompted particular concern, with different political allies and just as many opposition figures expressing their concerns and well squirts.

Further updates will be expected on how doctors plan to treat and help Stamford recover. His current health status is yet to be officially commented on by his party leaders and family members.
