Islamabad: Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan has blamed “fahasi” (vulgarity) for the rising incidents of rape and sexual violence. On Sunday, he was asked by a caller that what the Government should do regarding the rise in rape cases and sexual violence, especially against children. In response, the PM said that society must join to win in this fight. He said that it is extremely important for societies to protect themselves against vulgarity.
Khan said that in society, there are some people who “cannot keep their willpower in check”. He spoke about the Turkish drama Ertugrul which does not have any content which can be considered controversial or immoral. For this reason, he brought the show to Pakistani screens. The incidences of rape and sexual violence are increasing at an alarming rate in society. Khan said that the entire nation needs to unite against the menace.
The official statistics showed that every day at least 11 rape incidents are reported in Pakistan. In the last six years, 22,000 cases have been reported to the police. A major report stated in February, a plan has been proposed by the Forensics Department of Khyber Medical College University. The plan says that for medical examination, the rape victims would be charged Rs 25,000 and Rs 5000 for an autopsy for the residents of Peshawar.
