Balmain Artistic Director Olivier Rousteing has reported a distressing incident in which thieves targeted a delivery of over 50 pieces from the new collection intended for Balmain’s presentation at Paris Fashion Week later this month. Rousteing took to Instagram to share the unsettling news.
According to Rousteing, the incident occurred when a group of individuals intercepted the delivery driver transporting the collection from an airport to Balmain’s headquarters in Paris. These pieces were vital for the upcoming women’s fashion show scheduled for September 27, 2023. The stolen items included more than 50 articles, although specific details about the pieces were not disclosed. Rousteing did, however, express relief that the driver remained unharmed, stating, “Our delivery was hijacked. Thank God, the driver is safe.”
The designer conveyed his frustration and disappointment, highlighting the tremendous effort invested in creating the collection. He stressed the disrespect shown by the theft, emphasizing the dedication and hard work of his team and suppliers. Despite the setback, Rousteing declared their unwavering commitment: “We won’t give up.”
While Rousteing did not specify which airport the delivery driver had departed from, Paris has two major international airports. The theft is currently under investigation by local authorities, with further details expected to emerge in due course.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the challenges and setbacks that the fashion industry can face, even in the lead-up to highly anticipated events like Paris Fashion Week. Despite this setback, Balmain remains determined to present its collection to the world, showcasing the resilience of the fashion community in the face of adversity.
