The Pentagon, which houses the US Department of Defence, has eased the lockdown. The building in the early hours of Tuesday (Local time) was placed under a snap lockdown for more than an hour. The lockdown was initiated following a violent outburst at the neighbouring metro station. Officials reported the death of both the suspect and the responding police officer.
Woodrow Kusse, the Pentagon Force Protection Agency’s chief of Pentagon Police, told reporters during a press briefing the attack occurred around 10:37 a.m., and officers were alerted by a radio call that an “incident was underway”.
Later, PFFA announced the relaxation of restrictions through its micro blogging site. It said,” The Pentagon has lifted the lockdown and has reopened. Corridor 2 and the Metro entrance remains closed. Corridor 3 is open for pedestrian traffic.”
An attack at the pentagon police officer stationed at the transit centre was reported which later infuriated into cross-firing, injuring several civilians.
Kusse confirmed that the FBI was authorized to probe the incident. At a press conference in the afternoon, the PFFA chief of police informed that the incident scene was secure and declined to issue any further details of the attack, repeatedly citing the probe.
