Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval agreed to enhance the diplomatic relations between the two countries when they met in Russia, as reported by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Friday. The talks were held in the framework of one of the BRICS meetings in St. Petersburg. This time, the top-level read-only representatives of these countries were selected based on their ability to manage safety issues. Wang and Doval had discussed recent consultations done regarding borders since both of them served as Special Representatives for the India-China border talks mechanism as it progressed.
They agreed that peace and friendly relations between both China and India are important for their respective nations’ sustainable development as well as for the overall stability of the region. They consented to enact the understanding arrived at by the leaders of both countries in an effort to develop more trust and confidence with each other. Regarding future relations, both sides were called upon to engage in continuous communication to develop improved relations.
On September 12, Ajit also had meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg. Doval, who was quoted telling Pompeo, reported Prime Minister Modi’s keen interest in discussing Modi’s recent visit to Ukraine and his interaction with President Zelensky. “As PM Modi spoke to you over the phone, he was keen to brief you about his visit to Ukraine and his meeting with President Zelensky. He wanted me to come to Russia and personally discuss that conversation with you,” NSA Ajit Doval said. He said that the conversation was at a very close door where only the two leaders and a few of their assistants were present.
In their meeting, President Putin invited Prime Minister Modi for bilateral meetings at BRICS to be held at Kazan, Russia, on October 22. This offer proves that Russia is willing to continue and expand diplomatic relations with India, as well as seek collaboration with other BRICS countries.
