Sweden: Nobel Prize 2023 in Physics has been awarded to Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz, and Anne L’Huillier “for experimental methods that generate attosecond pulses of light for the study of electron dynamics in matter.”

The three joint winners have given humanity new tools for exploring the world of electrons inside atoms and molecules. They have demonstrated a way to create extremely short pulses of light that can be used to measure the rapid processes in which electrons move or change energy.

Astonishingly, an attosecond short unit of time, equivalent to one quintillionth of a second or 0. 000000000000000001 second.

Earlier on October 2, the Nobel Prizes in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Katalin Kariko and Drew Weissman for their discovery of messenger RNA vaccine. The Nobel Prizes in Chemistry, Literature, Peace, and Economic Sciences shall be revealed with announcements scheduled for October 9, 2023.

The Nobel Prize in Physics is a yearly award given by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences to those who have made outstanding contributions to humankind in the field of Sciences.

The Nobel Prizes carry cash award of 11 million Swedish Kronor ($1 million), drawn from a bequest left by Alfred Nobel, who passed away in 1896. The laureates have been invited for an award ceremony on December 10th, the anniversary of Nobel’s death.
