The Nobel laureates on Saturday congregated in Stockholm to mark the beginning of the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony that is being held after a hiatus of 2 years owing to the pandemic.

The event will commence at 1500 GMT which features glamorous formal wear- a desire many were worn off during the pandemic. Many laureates from 2020 and 2021 will be attending this year as well as the 2022 winners — last year for example there was a ceremony but no laureates attended as they received their medals in their home countries.

Activities ranging from panel discussions to news conferences would continue throughout the week. “Given the challenges the world faces, it feels especially important to highlight Alfred Nobel’s idea of international community,” said Vidar Helgesen, executive director of the Nobel Foundation.

Five of the six Nobel Prizes are awarded in Stockholm every yeqafter a nomination process kept under cover for 50 years. A separate event will also be held in Oslo. This year the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Belarusian social human rights organization memorial and the Ukrainian human rights organization centre for Civil Liberties.
