NEPAL: So far 70 bodies out of the 72 who died in the plan crash in Pokhara on Sunday were retrieved by rescuers. Bodies of two more continue to remain missing after the rescue operations were suspended on Monday night. Officials in the operation say that 42 bodies out of the 70 recovered have been identified. The bodies are being returned to the families added officials.
Officials added that autopsies of only 24 victims will be conducted in the Pokhara hospital while the rest of the bodies will be dispatched to bigger hospitals. As per reports, the aircraft’s data recorder will be sent to France for analysis in order to determine the cause of what caused the deadliest plane accident in 30 years. Earlier, the black box of the Yeti Airlines aircraft was handed over by the Nepal Army to Civil Aviation Authority officials.
Meanwhile, the family of four members of Ghaziabad in UP who were killed in the crash left to Nepal on Monday to identify the mortal remains of the deceased persons, a district administration official said. The country on Monday observed a national mourning day.
The twin-engine ATR 72 aircraft from Kathmandu crashed in Pokhara minutes before touch-down on Sunday. The plane took off from Tribhuvan International Airport at 10:33 am on Sunday. It crashed into forestland located on the banks of the Sti Gandaki River that flows between the old domestic airport and Pokhara International Airport.
