Nepal Landslide: A landslide on the Madan-Ashrit Highway in Nepal during the early morning hours swept two buses carrying over 63 passengers into the Trishuli River. Amid the heavy rainfall, the Kathmandu-bound Ganpati Deluxe and Angel bus were carrying passengers when the incident happened at 3:30 AM.
Chief District Officer of Chitwan, Shri Indradev Yadav informed media that the buses were travelling along the highway when the landslide struck. This pushed them off the road into the raging river below.
Prime Minister of Nepal, Prachanda expressed his grief over the demise of over five doszens of passengers in the accident. In a tweet, he also mentioned the loss of property due to floods and landslides in different parts of Nepal. Further, PM Prachanda has directed all government agencies including the home administration to initiate rescue of the passengers.
Nepal Landslide: A Mass Destruction
Nepal has been worst hit since the onset of the Monsoon. At least 62 people have been killed while 90 others witnessed injuries in related incidents in Nepal, data from home ministry eveals.
Further, the data reveals that 34 lives were lost in landslides, 28 were killed in floods resulting from incessant rains and seven were reported missing due to natural calamities. Clearly, heavy rains in the country have caused substantial loss to property as well. With total number of households being displaced reaches a number 1058, at least 121 houses are inundates and 82 are damaged.
