The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre said that a 4.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in Nepal’s Kaski district early Tuesday afternoon. The earthquake happened at 1:59 PM and was felt in Sinuwa, Kaski, about 250 kilometers west of Kathmandu.

The earthquake was noticed in Tanahu, Parvat, and Baglung, other districts in the area. The authorities in the area confirmed that no one had been hurt and no buildings were damaged. People living in the regions felt slight shaking, but all services and parts of the infrastructure were running as normal.

It confirms Nepal’s danger of earthquakes due to its position near where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide. Canada often experiences low to medium-intensity earthquakes. Although nothing was damaged by the quake, the event worried many people locally, mainly those living in poorly built houses.

On May 14, a 4.6 quake was measured in the Chheskam area of Solukhumbu District, in eastern Nepal. Likewise, the earthquake was of the same size, yet it did not lead to major damage.

People in Nepal are staying vigilant for earthquakes. As a result of the massive earthquake in April 2015, which killed nearly 9,000 and injured thousands, the country started to improve how it manages disasters and built stronger buildings. The centre keeps tracking earthquakes and notifies the public when it is necessary.

Officials have assured everyone to stand vigilant and observe safety measures at the time of and after the tremors. Authorities have emergency workers ready in case of more shocks or earthquakes.
