Kyiv: The Ukrainian President on the third day of the attack turned down the US govt recommendation that he should flee.“ The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride,” said Zelensky denying to leave his country.
Meanwhile, Ukraine forces fought off Russian troops in the capital as President defied calls to his Russian counterpart for him to lay down arms. The Ukrainian Army claimed to have taken down another 1,000 Russian saboteurs, at least 80 tanks, 7 choppers, 516 armoured vehicles, 10 aircraft and 20 cruise missiles so far. There has been no response yet from the Russian Defence Department on the number of causalities. However, it claimed to have knocked out 211 Ukraine military structures.
Responding to the televised message by Putin where he called the leaders of the ex-soviet union – neo nazis and drug addicts, Zelensky posted a self-shot video on social media of himself on the streets of Kyiv, vowing to stay and defend the capital.
“We’re all here. Our military is here. Citizens in society are here. We’re all here defending our independence, our country, and it will stay this way,” Zelensky said outside the presidency building.
The attack from Putin stemmed from Zelensky’s commendation to Nazi Germany’s 1941 invasion, where he praised his people for “demonstrating heroism” as Russian forces advanced towards the capital.
