Myanmar: Aung San Suu Kyi was accused of illegally importing six walkie talkie radios. After the coup took place on the 9th of February, Suu Kyi, an eminent leader of Myanmar, apparently was to culminate her remand today.
Thousands of people took to the streets across the country for the past nine days to denounce the coup. Suu Kyi’s lawyer reported that the prominent leader was under remand until Wednesday and will not appear today.
Khin Maung Zaw Kyi’s lawyer said, ” We came here to submit our power of attorney letter and discussed it with the district judge. “We are still trying to see her in line with the law”, he added.
Khin delineated that the first hearing of the lady will be a virtual conferencing; under the surveillance of high command; where she will be interrogated.
On being questioned about the fairness of the proceedings, the lawyer responds with an inappropriate comment.
Myanmar is under high alert and is deploying several armed forces to disperse the protestors outside the state capital, Myitkyina. A dozen police trucks with four water cannon vehicles were also deployed in central Yangon, near the Chinese Embassy today.
The government imposed a telecommunication network ban from 1 am (18:30 GMT) until 9 am today.
The unrest has revived memories of bloody outbreaks of opposition to almost half a century of direct army rule, which ended when the military began a process of withdrawing from civilian politics in 2011.
