Rajghat: Kenyan President William Ruto paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat during his visit to New Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson announced that Ruto laid a wreath, honoring Gandhi’s legacy. Welcomed by President Droupadi Murmu and PM Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Ruto received a ceremonial welcome, including inspecting a Guard of Honour.
In a social media post, Arindam Bagchi highlighted the warm reception, stating, “A grand welcome for our honoured guest!” President Ruto’s visit marks the first Presidential visit from Kenya to India in over six years, strengthening bilateral ties. The Kenyan delegation, led by Ruto, engaged with President Murmu and various union ministers, including S Jaishankar, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Kiren Rijiju.
Ruto, on a state visit at President Murmu’s invitation, expressed the need to consolidate relations between India and Kenya, emphasizing their longstanding friendship. During the visit, discussions with PM Modi and participation in a business and investment event in New Delhi were on the agenda. A state banquet hosted by President Murmu in Ruto’s honor is scheduled for the evening.
Reflecting on the diplomatic history, Ruto acknowledged India and Kenya’s enduring friendship since 1948, predating Kenya’s independence. He emphasized the significance of his visit, stating, “My expectation is that we need to consolidate the relationship between Kenya and India.” The visit underscores the commitment to diplomatic collaboration and strategic engagement between the two nations.
As the Kenyan President looks forward to in-depth discussions with PM Modi and engagement in business events, the visit is poised to contribute to the mutual development and cooperation of India and Kenya.
