ITBP officials cleared the air on false hoax news about Afghan evacuees who landed in India yesterday. It was reported that out of the 78 evacuees, 16 were tested positive for the virus. But today, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Officials took to their Twitter account to clarify that the news was false and that all of them were tested negative.

The tweet from their official handle reads, “There are no COVID-19 positive cases out of 78 persons (Who came from Afghanistan last night) who are presently under institutional quarantine at ITBP Quarantine Facility at Chhawla Camp, New Delhi”. Earlier there were reports that at least 16 people amongst the evacuees have tested positive for the virus.

Since the Taliban captured Kabul on Aug 15, several attempts have been made by afghans to flee the country fearing the safety of their future. India has been actively evacuating both Indian and Afghan Nationals from the Taliban-occupied Afghanistan province since day one. A total of 668 people have been evacuated so far by the Indian government, out of which 228 are Indian nationals. They have been safely quarantined in Delhi’s Chhawla camp as informed by the ITBP officials.
