This was the first time that the Israeli tanks entered the area in the middle of Rafah in the 3rd week of the ground operation in the southern part of Gaza city, which is a clear violation of international humanitarian law and has drawn negative criticism across the world. From the eye witness, tanks were sited approaching the al-Awda mosque, which is in the middle of Rafah city. The Israeli Defence Forces have stated activity in Rafah but refused to discuss the reported moves into the urban center of the town.
People were expressing deep concerns over heavy shelling by Israeli troops during dark hours, particularly through airstrikes and tank shells. This is in spite of the international condemnation that followed a Sunday deadly attack on a tent camp that burned and claimed the lives of at least 45 Palestinians – most of who were children, women, and the elderly— the attacks go on. Since that attack, another 26 people have been killed by the Israeli fire in Rafah, says officials in the aftermath of the Hamas-ruled territory.
Israeli tanks have moved closer to the western area and took positions atop Zurub hill, which has become one of the most severe nights of shelling, according to the respondents. On Tuesday, several witnesses claimed on Tuesday that there was fighting between Israeli troops and the fighters loyal to Hamas in the Zurub area. Also pointed out the fact people observed several armored vehicles capable of being remote-operated with no officers noticeable in the immediate vicinity. The Israeli military has not responded to these reports to date.
This current intrusion started three weeks back when Israelis attacked and seized the Gaza-Egypt border crossing. Although tanks have moved to the outskirts of Rafah and entered some eastern districts, but this is its first major attempt to enter the city.
Due to the deadly attack on Sunday night of a camp hosting displaced families, International politicians have considered the intervention of a World Court order ceasing the aggression of Israel.
