During a significant step, the Israeli forces recovered two bodies of hostages killed by Hamas during the October 7 attack. Benjamin Netanyahu, serving as Prime Minister, confirmed that on Thursday, the remains of Judi Weinstein-Haggai and her husband Gad Haggai were found thanks to a joint operation by the IDF and Shin Bet in Khan Younis.

The Israeli army reported that the couple was killed when Hamas initially invaded, and their remains were hidden in Gaza after that. In their recent targeted operation, the IDF found and brought back the remains of the soldiers to Israel. There is some relief for the grieving families in the recovery, still their pain is still very big.

The Prime Minister and his wife have sent their condolences to all the families affected, just as other Israelis have. We are emotionally touched by the grave loss. May celebrities’ contribution to society not be forgotten.”

Judi Weinstein, who is 70, and Gad Haggai, who is 72, lived on Kibbutz Nir Oz, a peaceful farm that was hit very badly when 7 October bombs were dropped. The couple was out for a morning walk when Hamas militants crossed the border and attacked numerous places in Israel.

Shot though she was, Judi managed to get in contact with emergency technicians and update her family. The Kibbutz confirmed that the two had died in December 2023, and their bodies were only released by Hamas now.

Even after the recovery, the Israeli government still believes that 56 of its citizens are held by Hamas and only about half are said to be alive.
