There was a significant escalation in the Middle East with new waves of drone and rocket attacks on the US embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday, which have been some of the harshest attacks in the recent weeks. Reportedly, the attack was performed by at least five drones, which shows the increasing instability in the area.
The developments follow the continuous military activity between the United States and Israel that have both launched attacks on strategic targets within the capital of Iran, Tehran. In reaction, the Iranians have stepped up retaliatory campaigns such as drone attacks which have temporarily paralyzed the operations of the airport in Dubai, a major transit centre in the world.
The situation has also intensified to the state of Lebanon where Israel initiated new attacks in Beirut, destroying the infrastructure associated to the Iran-backed group, Hezbollah. The cross border war has also been on the rise and Hezbollah has been launching rockets into northern Israel in retaliation to previous attacks.
The war has led to panic in the energy crisis around the world with the Strait of Hormuz which is a key passageway to almost 20 percent of the oil supply around the globe being upset. Threats and attacks on shipping have slowed down maritime traffic in Iran with the global oil prices going above 100 barrels per barrel.
Even though the US President Donald Trump has requested the international community to come up and help in securing the waterway, there have been no concrete commitments yet. Iran on its part has dismissed any form of negotiations and this is an indication that the region may escalate further.
