Tel Aviv: The temporary ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza has been extended for two more days, with the two sides completing the release of Israeli hostages and detained Palestinians under their original ceasefire deal and appearing poised to free more.
A total of 69 hostages (51 Israelis and 18 foreigners) and 150 Palestinian prisoners have been released so far, as per reports. “We have an extension … two more days,” Qatar’s UN Ambassador Alya Ahmed Saif Al-Thani told reporters after a closed-door UN Security Council meeting, saying both sides were to release more people. “This is a very positive step.”
Tech entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk arrived in Tel Aviv on Monday on a two-day visit to Israel and met the prime minister. During the meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu, Musk heard briefings from a local council leader and a representative of the Israeli Defence Forces about the massacres in the Kfar Aza Kibbutz.
After the visit, Elon Musk took to his own social media portal to write, “Trite as it may sound, I wish for world peace”.
Notably, the tech entrepreneur has been accused by civil rights groups of amplifying anti-Jewish hatred on his X social media platform. A slew of big brands, including Disney and IBM, decided to stop advertising on the platform after a report by liberal advocacy group Media Matters said ads were appearing alongside pro-Nazi material. However, Elon Musk has confronted the claims by saying, he was against antisemitism and against anything that promotes ‘hate and conflict’.
