Medical sources have estimated that at least 11 people, including five aid seekers, have been killed by Israel airstrikes in Gaza. The most recent attacks were on the Jabalia an-Nazla region in the north position in Gaza, which resulted in the further development of tensions in the area. On a similar note, Israeli troops undertook a mass arrest campaign in the West Bank on Thursday, arresting 12 people, including journalists, reform activists and released prisoners who were later re-arrested in large-scale raids and home raids.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is getting worse at a very high rate. The Gaza Health Ministry announced that four people died in the last 24 hours because of famine and malnutrition, two of whom were children. This makes the overall death toll due to hunger in the enclave 317, out of which 121 were children. There are no standing buildings in the Zeitoun neighbourhood in the southern part of Gaza City as a result of the Israeli ground operation that was launched earlier this month, which destroyed over 1,500 homes, as confirmed by Civil Defence in Gaza.
The crisis has attracted international interest; all the members of the UN Security Council except the United States have supported the statement of the International Palestinian Commission that famine in Gaza is a crisis that is man-made crisis. Israel and the US, however, opposed the findings, pointing out the sharp differences in the response of the international community.
In the meantime, the humanitarian impact on the most vulnerable people in Gaza is devastating. Hunger has killed the elderly, leaving a good number living on bones. The nursing homes have a hard time even with the basic care; some patients are so weak that they cannot move or feed themselves anymore.
US President Donald Trump chaired a policy meeting in Washington on the current war in Gaza and the future of the Palestinian territory after the war. According to senior White House officials, the meeting featured the contributions of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and former US Middle East ambassador Jared Kushner on how the world was watching the conflict and its effects escalating.
