The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have shot down America’s most advanced F-35 fighter jet over Iran. Hours later, it is being claimed that the pilot of the fighter jet has been captured alive. According to an Iranian news agency, the American pilot was captured by the Iranian military after ejecting from the hit aircraft. This could prove to be the biggest blow to the US and Israel yet.

Amid tensions in the Middle East, Iran’s IRGC claimed it shot down a highly advanced US F-35 fighter jet on Friday. According to an Iranian news agency, the pilot ejected safely after the plane crashed and has been taken into custody by the Iranian military.

A local channel of Iranian state television claimed on Friday that a US fighter pilot had ejected from their aircraft over southwestern Iran. The anchor read the following announcement: “If you capture the enemy pilot or pilots alive and hand them over to the police, you will receive a precious prize.”

An on-screen crawl separately urged the public to “shoot them if you see them”, referring to social media footage circulating of what appeared to be US aircraft conducting a search in the area.

Earlier, on March 19, Iran claimed to have become the first nation in the world to strike a US F-35 Lightning 2, one of the most valuable US aircraft and the backbone of the US’s fifth-generation warfighting capabilities. Over 19 countries have already flown or are preparing to fly the Lightning 2, which is in great demand both within the USAF and among its allies.
