Iran’s Supreme leader Khamenei addressed a large crowd at the Tehran Grand Mosque after Friday prayers to commemorate the memory of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah after the latter died in an Israeli strike this week. Israel launched strikes early on Friday targeting the southern suburbs of Beirut and Beirut’s airport.
Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli strike on September 27, has been given a temporary burial in a secret location until a public funeral can be held, sources close to the matter told the news agency AFP.
“Hassan Nasrallah has been temporarily buried until the circumstances allow for a public funeral,” the source said.
Hezbollah has not yet announced plans for the funeral of Nasrallah. Conflicting reports suggested that his final resting place could be either in Lebanon or Iraq.
Earlier on Thursday, Israel’s military had hit Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in the Lebanese capital Beirut, as troops battled militants near the border and warplanes bombarded their strongholds around the country.
The strike was allegedly aimed at eliminating senior Hezbollah official Hashem Safieddine, who is widely considered the successor to the late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in a strike earlier this week.
