Indian Origin, former British Finance Minister is leading the race as the most eligible successor to Boris Johnson. The second round of voting which underwent successfully on Thursday saw Rishi Sunak as the top choice as the Leader of the Conservative Party and the next Prime Minister. One candidate was also eliminated in the second phase of voting. Attorney General Suella Braverman got the least number of votes at 27 and consequently, he was drawn out of the race.
Sunak was followed by junior trade Minister Penny Mordaunt who bagged 83 votes in total and is often referred to as the bookmakers’ favourite. Foreign Secretary Liz Truss won 64 votes in the second phase voting. Kemi Badenoch received 49 votes in the race while lawmaker Tom Tugendhat got 32 votes in total.
The PM elections were triggered in the country after Boris Johnson stepped down as the PM after 27 Ministers quit his cabinet. Meanwhile, in a statement, Runak Sunak assured that if voted to power he will cut down tax rates but in a responsible way. As the UK’s top post elections intensify in the country the Conservative Party Leaders are sure of Rishi Sunak as the next office bearer of PM.
