New Delhi: According to information released on Wednesday by the defence and military establishment, the 18th iteration of the joint military exercise between the United States and India known as “Yudha Abhyas” will take place from October 14 to October 31. It added that this massive exercise would include a lot of intricate drills.

As per the sources, the exercise aims to improve communication, coordination, and cooperation between the US and Indian militaries. The “Yudha Abhyas” drill is going to take place in eastern Ladakh against the backdrop of India’s ongoing border dispute with China. Also in the month of October, a massive military exercise spanning more than two weeks will be conducted by India and the US in Auli, Uttarakhand, in light of the rapidly changing regional security situation. The last round of the military exercise  “Yudha Abhyas” was held in Alaska, United States, in October 2021.

In recent years, India and US have signed several pacts for security and defence developments. In June 2016, the United States designated India as a “Major Defence Partner”. Over the past few years, the two nations have also signed important defence and security pacts, including the 2018 agreement of  COMCASA (Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement) between the two sides, which enables military cooperation between the two nations to transfer the sale of advanced technology from the US to India. Additionally, the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) between India and the US from 2016 allows for tighter collaboration and permits and promotes closer collaboration by allowing both militaries to use one another’s bases for supply replenishment and repair.
