Hurricane Orlene made a landfall on Mexico’s Pacific coast near the tourist town of Mazatlan. The Hurricane made a landfall on Mexico’s Pacific coast before quickly weakening over land into a tropical depression.
About 40 miles south of Mazatlan, electrical cables swayed and sent off showers of sparks in the town of El Rosario. All activities along the coast have been suspended, seaports are closed, and shelters have been set up. The ports of Manzanillo and Puerto Vallerto have been closed to ships and Mexico’s navy has announced closure of ports of Mazatlan, San Blas, and Nuevo Vallarta to small craft.
“Orlene could cause mudslides, rising rivers, and stream levels, and floods in low-lying areas”, said Mexico’s National Water Commission. The hurricane can bring flood-inducing rainfall of up to 10 inchs and cause coastal flooding.
