In an emergency online court hearing on Monday, the Serbian tennis playwr was offered a ray of hope after an Australian judge demanded to know what more Novak Djokovic could have done to meet the country’s pandemic requirements on arrival.
Judge Anthony Kelly listened to extended legal wrangling about the process, before jumping to the 34-year-old’s defence. Kelly stated that, Djokovic had provided evidence from “a professor and an eminently qualified physician” about a medical exemption. Hearing the case, lawyers from counsel for the federal government, claimed Djokovic during an overnight questioning at the airport,was “utterly confused” about the situation. Filing the case, Djokovic’s lawyer cited that the tennis player had contracted COVID-19 in December and so was provided a medical exemption.
The 34 year old number one shuttler had landed in Melbourne last week and was detained by th Australian Border Forces at the Tullamarine airport on failure to present vaccination proof. Djokovic’s visa was revoked and was moved to immigration detention facility pending deportation.
