Uganda: The heavy downpour caused mudslides in western Uganda’s Buhweju district. Though not many casualties have been reported by far, reports are that a total of 8 people have died in the disaster and 3 more have been injured. The reason behind such downpour has not been confirmed by the weather department yet.
The regional spokesperson of the police of the region greater Bushenyi, Martial Tumusiime confirmed the news about the casualties. The three people who are injured in the mudslides are unfortunately of the same family.
Tumusiime said regarding the matter, “They were taking shelter from one house after it started raining heavily. Unfortunately, the house was swept by mudslides”.
It is very unfortunate that such an incident took place in the region. Apart from the deaths, there have been other losses that put an effect on the lives of the people that are alive. Rescue operations are being carried out by the local rescue teams. Hopefully, the situation will come under control soon.
