Washington: During an hour-long meet with the first-ever Indo-American National Vice President of the Senate on Thursday, PM Narendra Modi was taken through a brief discussion f Pakistan’s role in terrorism. According to Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Shringla, Kamala Harris flagged India as being victimized by the neighbouring Muslim country. She asserted that there was a need to reign in and closely, monitor Pakistan’s support for such terrorist groups.
The two leaders focused on strengthening the US-Indo ties and addressed global issues of common interest like threats to democracy, Afghanistan and the Indo-Pacific threats.
Briefing the reporters, Shringla quoted, “She asked Pakistan to take action so that this will not impact on US security and that of India. She agreed with the Prime Minister’s briefing on the fact of cross border terrorism, and the fact that India has been a victim of terrorism for several decades now and on the need to rein in, and closely monitor Pakistan’s support for such terrorist groups.”
She asserted that the democracies of the nations were being threatened and it is essential to defend democratic principles and institutions within the countries and around the globe. This was the first time Ms Harris had physically convened with PM Modi. Earlier the duo had a conversation over the phone during the second wave and the PM had first spoken to Harris congratulating her for her victory as a Vice PreZ.
