Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh killed: Hamas chief, Ismail Haniyeh had been killed in Tehran, Iran, confirmed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stating that Haniyeh’s residence was targeted in an attack. Heniyah was in the Iranian capital to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian.
In an official statement, Hamas said that the chief was killed in a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran. As they mourned the death of their chief, IRGC refused to provide details on how Heniyah was killed and stated that the attack is under investigation.

Ismail Haniyeh served as the spokesperson for the Palestinian group’s global diplomacy during the ongoing Gaza conflict. Three of his sons lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike. Many diplomats considered Haniyeh to be the more moderate figure, despite his strong public statements.
Haniyeh was appointed to the top position in Hamas in 2017 as he traveled between Turkey and Doha (the capital of Qatar. This allowed him to bypass the travel restrictions imposed on the blockaded Gaza Strip and enable him to participate in the ceasefire and maintain communication with Hamas.
