Hamas has evinced to put in place critical components of the previous U.S. President Donald Trump plan to put an end to the almost two-year-old dispute with Israel, such as the liberation of the remaining hostages who were taken during the attacks on October 7, 2023. The group assured that it is prepared to release the hostages and hand over power to other Palestinian groups, which is an indication of possible de-escalation of one of the longest conflicts in the region. Nevertheless, Hamas said other parts of the plan reported by Trump, especially the future governance and territorial position of Palestine, would necessitate internal consultations and discussions among Palestinian leaders, according to news agency reports.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recognised the development and said Israel was ready to proceed with the first part of the plan, which probably meant hostage release. However, Netanyahu stressed that Israel would not give up on finding a solution that was rooted in a few principles it had already set before the proposal, and that further talks about territory and security would go on independently.

The previous president, Trump, was delighted by the agreement between Hamas and he was hopeful of future peace within the region. He had earlier threatened to expand military action against Hamas unless it abided by the conditions of the plan by Sunday evening.

Under the plan, Hamas is likely to set free the remaining 48 hostages, among whom approximately 20 are likely to be alive, in a period of three days. Hamas would be disarming and giving up power, as well as liberating hostages. In response, Israel would halt its offensive, pull out of major areas of Gaza, free Palestinian prisoners and permit the delivery of humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts into the region. Analysts consider this agreement as the first very important step to de-escalation, even though the execution of the more comprehensive scheme of the territorial conflicts and long-term government.
