Kartarpur: In a deeply disturbing incident, an alleged party within the sacred grounds of Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara has sparked outrage, as alcohol and meat were reportedly served, contrary to Sikh beliefs. Jagdip Singh Kahlon, the General Secretary of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, vehemently condemned the sacrilegious act and urged swift action from the Pakistan government against those responsible. Expressing concern, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Harmeet Singh Kalka emphasized the potential implications of the incident.
SGPC president Dhami stressed that if the event indeed occurred within the Kartarpur Sahib complex, it would violate ‘maryada’ and Sikh sentiments, particularly considering the site’s association with Guru Nanak Dev. DSGMC spokesperson Manjit Singh Bhoma called for a public apology from the organizers, highlighting the event’s proximity to the PMU office, an integral part of the Gurdwara Kartarpur complex.
This incident has reignited concerns about the imperative need for strict adherence to Sikh ‘rehat maryada’ and responsible management of religious sites. Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib holds immense significance for Sikhs globally, and any perceived disrespect to its sanctity is bound to evoke strong reactions from the Sikh community.
It’s essential for the Pakistani authorities to address this matter promptly, acknowledging the sensitivity of religious sentiments involved. Incidents like these underscore the importance of upholding the sanctity of religious sites and promoting mutual respect among diverse communities. As the global Sikh community expresses disappointment and seeks accountability, this incident serves as a reminder of the responsibility incumbent upon custodians of sacred places to uphold religious values and traditions.
