Gukesh’s triumph marked a momentous occasion, as he shattered the long-standing record held by the legendary Garry Kasparov. For nearly four decades, Kasparov had reigned supreme as the youngest World Chess Champion. However, Gukesh’s brilliance and unwavering determination propelled him to surpass this iconic achievement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too congratulated the World Chess Champion as he wrote on X, “Historic and exemplary! Congratulations to Gukesh D on his remarkable accomplishment. This is the result of his unparalleled talent, hard work and unwavering determination”.

The tension had been palpable, as a draw in the 14th game would have necessitated a series of rapid chess tiebreakers scheduled for the following day.

Gukesh’s journey to the pinnacle of the chess world has been nothing short of extraordinary. His exceptional talent and unwavering dedication have propelled him to the forefront of the global chess scene. At a tender age, he has already achieved milestones that many seasoned players can only dream of.
