KYIV: The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been switched to standby and emergency power supply generators, a Russia-installed local official in the Moscow-controlled part of the region said on Monday. Vladimir Rogov said the plant was “completely” disconnected from the external power supply after Ukraine disconnected a power line it controls.
The plant was captured by Russian mercenaries, in the early days of the war.
As many as 8 were wounded in the overnight attack in the Dnipropetrovsk region where scores of infrastructure damage was also reported following a Russian air strike. The country’s military said the attack was carried out by 16 different types of missiles and Shahed drones. It added that air defence systems destroyed 20 drones and four cruise missiles.
Taking to Telegram, Governor Serhiy Lysak said that at least on man was wounded in the attack on Dnipro city and seven people were injured on an attack on Synelnykivskyi district of the Dnipropetrovsk region. He added that severalbuilding, private homes and administrative infrastructure were damaged or destroyed.
Ukrainian security expert Maria Avdeeva claimed on Twitter that Moscow used “20 Shahed drones”, adding that a new Russian tactic is to attack one city with a combination of weapons.
According to General Sir Richard Barrons, former commander of Joint Forces Command, Russias efforts and use of ammunition in its fight for Bakhmut will ‘handicap’ its preparation against Kyiv’supcoming counter efforts. He told that Moscow had to move its “precious reserves of people” to stop Ukrainian forces to the north and south of the city.
He added that the Wagner Group has been “broken” in the battle for Bakhmut. The mercenary group has been heavily involved in fighting in the city but founder Yevgeny Prigozhin said his forces would leave the conflict zone later this week.
