DUBAI: For the third straight day, the Middle East’s financial center was shaken by the sounds of war as explosions resounded throughout the financial hub in the United Arab Emirates on Friday morning. Thick clouds of black smoke were observed rising from the area near the Dubai skyline after a successful intercept of a flying threat, further heightening the tensions in the spillover of the ongoing West Asia conflict.

The Dubai Media Office announced that the emirate’s air defense systems intercepted an incoming aerial threat, though it was unclear if it was a drone or a missile, over a high-density area in the central part of the emirate.

The ministry called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities by compelling the Israeli occupation authorities to cease their repeated attacks on Lebanon and to respect international conventions and laws. It affirmed its unwavering stance towards the Republic of Lebanon, its unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and its full support for all efforts that enhance its stability and prosperity.

French Soldier Killed in Iraq

A French soldier was killed in Iraq’s Erbil region, while some soldiers were reportedly injured as well. Though France is not taking part in the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, Paris has troops in the Middle East. French President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday that the country’s first soldier was killed. Macron did not give details on the attack, or who was behind it, but France’s military said earlier that drones hit a base where troops were taking part in counter-terrorism training with Iraqi counterparts.
