New Caledonia: The Loyalty Islands recently got struck with an earthquake of magnitude 7.7 which has also triggered a tsunami warning. The weather officials of the state has also warned the individuals living nearby for the same. It has also been reported that the earthquake had a depth of 38 kms.

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 has rattled the South Pacific, triggering a warning of a possible tsunami for several areas including New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, and even Lord Howe Island off Australia’s east coast. 

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has stated that tsunami waves could be possible within 1,000 km of the earthquake, with waves up to 10 feet/3 metres above tides being possible for Vanuatu. Meanwhile, New Caledonia, Fiji, Kiribati and New Zealand could experience waves up to 3 feet or 1 metre.

Many small islands also experienced earthquakes but on a smaller magnitude. The areas which have experienced the small earthquakes were Guam, Papua New Guinea, and some other Islands of the Pacific region.
