Flights were briefly suspended at Dubai International Airport on Monday after a drone strike hit facilities close to the airfield, causing temporary disruption to air traffic operations. Authorities said the drone attack damaged nearby fuel storage tanks, prompting emergency response teams to rush to the scene while aviation officials halted flight movements as a precaution.
During the suspension, several aircraft already approaching the airport were forced to circle in the air until the situation was brought under control. Airport operations resumed later after safety checks were completed. Emirates, the largest airline operating from the airport, confirmed the temporary disruption and advised passengers to check flight schedules before travelling.
The incident comes just days after another brief disruption linked to regional tensions. Meanwhile, authorities in the United Arab Emirates said 35 people had been arrested for spreading misleading and fabricated content online regarding the attack. Among those detained were 19 Indian nationals accused of sharing videos and posts that allegedly created panic or misinformation about the situation.
Amid rising tensions in the region, Iran alleged that the United States used ports and facilities in the UAE to carry out strikes on Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export terminal. However, no evidence was presented to support the claim.
UAE officials have reiterated that the country reserves the right to defend itself while continuing to exercise restraint and prioritize diplomatic solutions as regional tensions persist.
