As Donald Trump has shown, in the near future, the United States can possibly reduce its military action against Iran, saying that major goals are almost met. His comments are against the backdrop of widening tensions in West Asia due to stepped up retaliatory measures by Iran in response to coordinated US-Israel military attacks that were launched on February 28.

The war has affected the world energy markets greatly. Iran has retaliated by attacking the largest LNG facility in the world in Qatar situated in the same energy region after Israel attacked a major Iranian gas field earlier this week. This led to a sudden rush in world oil and gas prices that put strain on the international world markets.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that the US is nearly achieving its goals but it is now contemplating winding down its military operations in the area. He however issued a warning also and this was an indication that causing any more escalation would be a welcome reaction. He had mentioned before that Israel would not strike more on Iranian gas infrastructure to prevent the escalation of the crisis.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the position of the President by saying that the mission was supposed to last four to six weeks and the US was in the third week. She also opined that capabilities of Iran have been compromised in a great way in the course of the operation.

The statement of Trump is the first clear indication that the US can be on the way to de-escalating the conflict, but the conditions in the region are not very stable.
