New Delhi: The genesis of a microorganism that wreaked havoc across the globe is yet demurred. After President Biden issued a 90 days period to intel agencies to probe Wuhan lab leak theory, several scientists from the organization issued statements on the possibilities of the genesis.
Danielle Anderson, a scientist who worked at the Wuhan Institute of Virology prior to the pandemic, spurned the possibility that the coronavirus leaked from the lab.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, the Australian virologist, the only foreign scientist in the notorious lab said that it is most likely that the virus might have originated from a natural source.
According to Anderson, nobody at the lab fell sick towards the end of 2019, when the virus is suspected to have originated. She also informed that there is a protocol for reporting symptoms associated with pathogens handled in high-risk containment labs. In case of any breakout, her colleagues wouldn’t have travelled to Singapore for an event she added.
Anderson is the only foreign scientist to have undertaken research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s BSL-4 lab, the first in mainland China equipped to handle the planet’s deadliest pathogens. Her tenure ended in November 2019, giving Anderson an insider’s perspective on the laboratory.
