Geneva: The vaccine ‘Sputnik V’ approved by Russia this week is not among nine which are considered for the advanced stages of testing, said the World Health Organisation.
WHO and its partners have taken nine Covid-19 (in the experimental stage) vaccines which are within an investment mechanism and it is inviting countries to join, officially called the Covax facility. This initiative will make the countries to sanction investment in various vaccines to obtain an early access whereas giving funding for developing countries.
On the Russia vaccine, Dr. Bruce Aylward, a senior adviser to WHO’s director-general, verbally expressed “We don’t have ample information at this point to make a judgment”. He added “We’re currently in conversation with Russia to get supplemental information to understand the status of that product, the tribulations that have been undertaken and then what the next steps might be.”
President Vladimir Putin promulgated on this Russia had approved a COVID-19 vaccine that has yet to consummate advanced tribulations in people and claimed, without evidence, the immunization forfends people for up to two years.
