CHATTOGRAM: Chinmoy Krishna Das, former leader of ISKCON, has encountered a setback when a Chattogram court rejected his bail request amidst tensions in Bangladesh. The ruling followed a 30-minute hearing held under strict security. Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Saiful Islam declined the plea, as reported by The Daily Star.

The bail hearing, which was postponed on December 3 because of procedural issues, continued today with 11 Supreme Court lawyers representing Das. Lawyer Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee, who is advocating for Das, mentioned, “We have approached the court under the banner of Ainjibi Oikya Parishad and are dedicated to obtaining bail for Chinmoy Krishna Das.”

Das has been into controversy since his arrest on November 25 for allegedly raising a saffron flag above Bangladesh’s national flag in Chittagong on October 25. Which was the reason why violent clashes on November 27 happened outside the Chattogram Court Building, leading to the death of a lawyer.

Furthermore, ISKCON Kolkata announced that two monks, Adipurush Shyam Das and Ranganath Das Brahmachari, were taken into custody on November 29 after they visited Das. Additionally, Vice President Radha Raman said that rioters had vandalized an ISKCON center amid the protests.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India has expressed worries about the violence, asking the Govt of Bangladesh to look into the matter on targeted attacks on minorities.
