Military exercises have been held by China around Taiwan. On multiple occasions, it has also entered into conflicts with India. Recently, a two day large military exercise surrounding Taiwan was conducted by China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Amid this time of joint military exercise with Cambodia, the PLA exhibited the potential of its highly equipped robotic dog, which can shoot using high end guns.
The video of the robotic dog engaged in the military drill has gone viral on various social media platforms. According to the reports of Chinese state media, Global Times, this robot is technically sophisticated and can increase war efficiency significantly along with reducing casualties. Countries like America, China and other developed countries are engaged in developing human like robots that can be placed in wars.
This robotic dog weighs 15 kilograms and is equipped with a 4D super wide angle system. The battery and power system in the robotic dog allow it to operate for two to four hours. It can also make forward and backward movements by crouching, jumping and independently planning routes to avoid obstacles and reach its target in less time. A remote control is used to operate it and send data to the command center in real time. It is also reported by Chinese media that the bigger version of the robot dog weighs more than 50 kilograms and can perform armed assault missions.
The Global Times said, “The drills show that the PLA has been intensively testing multiple types of robot dogs in terms of technologies and tactics….Capable of accompanying troops in high-risk tasks, robot dogs can greatly enhance combat efficiency and reduce casualty.” The world has witnessed the thorough use of explosive drones by Ukraine against Russia. These drones are so lethal that soldiers or tanks have no time to escape.
Modern warfare equipment, including drones and robots is increasingly used by countries across the globe. So where does Indian Army stand? It is still behind the United States and China in this. Currently, the Indian Army has been seen only with reconnaissance robotic dogs. According to reports, the army is seeking to procure or develop a tactical Unmanned Ground Combat Vehicle (UGCV), which is quite similar to the one used by China.
