The body of an Indian student who had disappeared mysteriously has been discovered in Russia almost three weeks after his disappearance. The victim is a 22-year-old Ajit Singh Chaudhary, a medical student at the Alwar district of Rajasthan, who has been undertaking his MBBS studies at the Bashkir State Medical University since 2023. His corpse was found purportedly in a dam along the White River at Ufa, where he had disappeared on October 19.
Reportedly, Ajit went out to purchase milk in his hostel at about 11 a.m. in that manner but did not come back. His family and friends became more and more concerned when they could not get in touch with him. His cell phone had been switched off, and subsequently his jacket, shoes, and phone were located on a riverbank and this led to speculations of his disappearance.
NDTV reported the words of Nitin Sangwan, the chairman of Alwar Saras Dairy, confirming that the body of Ajit was found in a dam next to the White River. The tragic discovery of the Russian police was made known to his family members who had been in constant contact with the Indian authorities.
The All India Medical Students Association has also addressed the External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and the Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma to repatriate the remains of Ajit to India soon. The family of the student had previously approached Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav and the Alwar District Collector in order to align with the Ministry of External Affairs.
On October 20, the family was called by Russian authorities, but was not given clear information as to what happened, according to Ajits uncle, Bhoom Singh. He also claimed that the university management and hostel warden have been indifferent. The family is currently waiting to have more explanation on the actual occurrence of how Ajit died since police are looking into the manner in which the young student found himself in the dam.
