Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has publicly shown his profound regret over his previous dealings with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein as the new scrutiny is brought to focus on their relationship following the publication of new records by the US Justice Department. Gates stated that he regretted having spent time with Epstein and apologized to have ever been associated with him which he now regrets all the time they spent together.

The remarks are based on newly published court records pertaining to the Epstein probe, which included allusions to a number of high profile figures. Some of the documents included an unsent draft e-mail of Epstein, in which he made allegations against Gates regarding his personal life. The draft alleged that Epstein helped Gates to get drugs and facilitate so-called extramarital affairs. The news agency reported the claims.

Gates strongly opposed the claims by terming the information contained in the draft email as being entirely false. He made it clear that this email was not sent and inquired the intent of Epstein to write such statements. Gates even proposed that Epstein might have been trying to hurt his own image or to take revenge in some manner. “That email was never sent. The email is false. I do not know what he was thinking, Gates said, and denied that he had done anything wrong.

One of the spokespersons of Gates supported him, saying that the documents were a sign of Epstein being frustrated by the fact that there was no continuing relationship with Gates and were an effort to tarnish his reputation. Epstein committed suicide when he was awaiting trial over federal sex trafficking charges in 2019; he was well-known to seek connections with influential and powerful people.

In the meantime, Melinda French Gates, an ex-wife of Gates, also offered her opinion on the topic in an interview with the US National Public Radio. She wrote that the publication of the documents revived painful experiences of her marriage and it was clear that some questions were left unanswered. She continued to add that such issues as she had to solve with her former husband would have to be discussed by the individuals.
