Beijing: Streets of the Chinese Capital, witnessed a quite morning after residents began Work From Home as touted by authorities break the chain of infection. Meanwhile, financial hub Shanghai under restriction from a long time now hopes to return to normalcy this month.
Residents on Thursday evening rushed to stock up essentials amid fears of an impending Covid-19-related lockdown and banning of home deliveries beginning on Friday. However, Beijing officials shortly denied rumours of sweeping, Shanghai-style lockdown measures, urging people not to panic-buy but to stay at home. They also announced a new round of mass testing across most of the city.
The city further tightened Covid-19 curbs on Thursday, restricting access for taxis to sections of the capital with most cases of Covid-19. As a result, millions of Beijing residents could not use taxi-hailing services with all cabs and cars operating on ride-hailing apps banned from entering the southern part of Chaoyang district and all of Fangshan and Shunyi districts.
According to WHO, the country has reported 1,428,927 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 15,493 deaths As of 5 May 2022, a total of 3,399,003,302 vaccine doses have been administered.
