Indian travelers are being advised to avoid traveling to Iran as Iran has launched a major missile attack on Israel. The Indian government has advised citizens currently present in Iran to exercise caution and keep in touch with its embassy in Tehran.
The war reached its peak just before midnight yesterday when Iran lit up the sky over Israel with a volley of hypersonic missiles. Iran claimed that it carried out this attack in retaliation for the deaths of key leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah.
The foreign ministry said in a statement shared by spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal that the Indian government is closely monitoring the recent escalation in the security situation in the region. “Indian nationals are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran. Those currently residing in Iran are requested to remain vigilant and stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran,” the travel advisory read.
Indian nationals in the nation were urged yesterday to exercise caution, stay away from unnecessary travel, and stay near the safety shelters by the Indian embassy in Tel Aviv. “The Embassy is closely monitoring the situation and remains in regular touch with the Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of all our nationals,” the embassy said in its advisory.
Yesterday, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar voiced concerns about the possibility for the Middle East crisis to turn into a wider regional conflict. “We are very much concerned at the possibility of a broadening of the conflict, not just what happened in Lebanon, but also, you know, I referred earlier to the Houthis and the Red Sea, and, you know, to some extent, everything that happens between Iran and Israel,” he stated.
