Ten people, including the suspected gunman, were killed in Austria after a tragic school shooting, which is now the country’s most deadly school-related event in a long time. On Tuesday, the incident happened at BORG Dreierschützengasse in Graz, the country’s second biggest city.

Local news reports say that at least nine children were among the victims, with one adult person seen as being a teacher also killed. The shooter, who died by suicide in a school before being stopped, was said to be a student at the school.

It was confirmed by Graz Mayor Elke Kahr (KPÖ) that the news was very sad. Based on information from APA, she reported that 10 people were killed in the attack, which caused major shock in Austria.

ORF reported that the suspect took his own life right after the attack, meaning the tragedy was over in the school.

Government officials, as well as international leaders, expressed sorrow and disapproval after the attack took place. On the social platform BlueSky, Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger shared how she was shocked by the shooting in Graz. This experience is so shocking and hard to deal with. I am full of sympathy and sadness for the victims and their families. Being the mom of three children is very difficult for me.

Likewise, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, expressed these views. She wrote on X that every student should feel secure at school and not be afraid of violence. I send my sympathy to the families and people of Austria after the attacks.

Officials are working hard to learn the reason behind the awful crime.
