Ohio: The Indian embassy in New York has confirmed the tragic news that Mohammed Abdul Arfath, a 25-year-old student from Hyderabad who had enrolled for a Master’s program at Cleveland State University in 2023, is found dead in Ohio. This is the 11th death reported in Ohio since the beginning of 2024.
The Indian embassy had previously communicated that they were coordinating the search efforts with Abdul’s family and local authorities. Today, they announced his passing through a tweet.
The embassy expressed their sorrow with the following statement: “Anguished to learn that Mr. Mohammed Abdul Arfath, for whom search operation was underway, was found dead in Cleveland, Ohio. Our deepest condolences to Mr Mohammed Arfath’s family.”
Earlier on Saturday, the unbelievably tragic death of Uma Satya Sai Gadde, who was discovered to have died under unusual conditions in the state of Ohio was reported. This constitutes the 10th death of an Indian or Indian-origin student in the US since the start of 2024. Besides, it marks the fourth such reported fatality in California this year.

Vivek Taneja, a 41-year-old Indian-origin IT executive, sustained life-threatening injuries during an assault outside a restaurant in Washington.
