Officials have informed that nine Bangladeshi citizens who entered India illegally from Meghalaya were arrested on Tuesday night. Police said they caught the Bangladeshis traveling in a van during an investigation in Dalmagre village in Meghalaya’s West Garo hills, bordering the neighboring country.
Additionally, authorities seized 12 cell phones from Bangladeshi citizens along with various SIM cards, Indian money, Aadhar cards, and condemning documents. They also discovered two vehicles. On social media, a photo of the nine Bangladeshis has been doing the rounds.
Nine more Bangladeshi immigrants were detained last week for being in the city illegally in Ghatkopar, Mumbai. Three youngsters were also discovered by the police to be residing with the Bangladeshis. A complaint was filed against them when officials discovered that they were in possession of forged documents.
In another incident, the Border Security Forces (BSF) shot an Indian man who had entered Bangladesh illegally on Tuesday as he was heading back to India. According to authorities, the guy, known as Akhtar Jamal Roni, had traveled to Bangladesh on Monday to attend a religious event. The BSF Tripura Frontier claims that a lady was with Roni.
The two were initially spotted by the security forces coming from the Bangladeshi side of the border barrier. They tried to break through the fencing and got into a brawl with the security personnel in spite of many warnings from the authority. According to authorities, the two even attempted to take one of the official’s Pump Action Guns (PAGs). The security guard shot one bullet at the pair in self-defense and in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
